                  Field Survey Project Manager - KDOT

                  This Land Surveyor II position is under the Bureau of Right of Way and covers the full State of Kansas. This position supervises the preliminary survey activities for the Bureau of Right of Way and manages the internal resources, along with coordination of consultant survey resources utilized by the Bureau.

                  The Land Surveyor is responsible for locating, establishing and/or relocating section corners, property corners and KDOT right of way, reviewing deeds and plans relative to project site, alignment recovery and establishment, vertical control recovery and benchmark establishment. This position also obtains elevations and topographic information, makes on site project inspections of survey operations to review all operations and trains appropriate District personnel in surveying and basic mathematics.

                    SMH Consultants is seeking a motivated Survey Field Technician to support our land surveying team in Manhattan, KS. You’ll work alongside a Survey Crew Chief to complete a variety of land and engineering design surveys. Responsibilities include operating GPS equipment, robotic total stations, drones, levels, and locators; loading and unloading equipment; and assisting with construction staking, design surveys, utilities, boundary surveys, drone flights, and more.

                    Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., have a valid driver’s license, and be able to work outdoors in all weather and in challenging environments such as construction sites, high-traffic areas, landfills, and streams. The role requires lifting up to 75 lbs., walking rough terrain, clearing vegetation, digging, and working 10+ hour days, occasional weekends, and traveling for projects. Candidates should be able to learn quickly, understand basic math concepts, and communicate effectively. AutoCAD experience and a CST certification are preferred but not required.
