Johnson County Public Works is looking for qualified applicants to fill the position of Land Surveyor in Olathe, KS. Applications for this job will be accepted through 4:00 pm on December 30, 2018. The job duties of the Land Surveyor may include:
- Serve as Survey Party Chief/Field supervisor; prepare and plan for routine surveys by researching government records, assigning jobs to crew, and determining equipment and supplies needed; perform topographic, construction, right of way, and as built surveys; perform differential and trigonometric leveling; keep detailed field notes and sketches; locate and record existing monuments; operate and maintain survey instruments, including calibration testing and regular maintenance; maintain supply inventories.
- Process field surveys and prepares drawings/maps for design; perform routine quality control checks on survey files, make adjustments, reviews, and files digital data, field notes, and sketches.
- Perform routine research related to real property ownership, including right of way dedications, property title, rail road, utility plans, prior surveys, court records and reports; perform routine plat and survey review.
- Train and coordinate tasks and job assignments of engineering aides when they are assigned to the survey crew.
High school diploma or equivalent and six years of land and construction surveying experience is required. The successful candidate is required to obtain a Kansas Surveyor License within six months of hire. A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record are required. Knowledge of AutoCAD, spreadsheets, Survey Software, Word Processing, project management skills, and time management skills are required. This position requires excessive standing and walking, exposure to extreme temperatures and loud noises, and lifting of 50 pounds.
An Associate's degree in Surveying or Engineering and two years of supervisory/Party Chief experience are preferred.
